The Beckham Drama: Explaining the Breakdown Inside the House of Beckham

'Beckxit' Causing British Chaos

Unless you have been really living under a rock – which would be understandable with summative season killing us all off – you would have heard of the VERY public blowout between Brooklyn Beckham and his family. However, like me, you may be a bit lost in it all, with a slightly confusing flood of AI Victoria Beckhams dancing at the Beckham X Peltz wedding leaving me entertained, disturbed, and also a little confused in the mayhem of it all. Fortunately, my procrastination and desire to do anything but Uni work, has given me plenty of time to deep dive into this family feud.

Lets start with the wife: Nicola Peltz Beckham. Undeniably gorgeous, this actress and filmmaker got together with first son of the Beckham dynasty in October 2019 after being seen at a Leonardo DiCaprio Halloween Party. As the daughter of Trian Fund Management founder Nelson Peltz, and former model Claudia Heffner Peltz, Nicola certainly carries her own reputation and wealth, which you would think would make her a suitable and approved partner for Brooklyn… clearly not. Their whirlwind romance culminated in an engagement in July 2020 after just 8 months of officially dating.

Since the public drama began between the Beckhams, Nicola’s character has been broken down and criticised in every possible way. To give a taste, entire articles have exposed a curious trend in her involvement in a string of high-profile fallouts over the years, spanning from friends and stylists to wedding planners and legal disputes. One particularly striking account concerns her friendship with Selena Gomez. The two were famously close, with jokes being made in 2023 that Nicola, Brooklyn and Selena were a ‘throuple’. However, by Selena’s wedding to Benny Blanco in 2025, the couple were notably not on the guest list. This acts to only fuel scrutiny around her personal and professional relationships, positioning her in the all-too similar view of women being blamed for family breakdowns, anyone else thinking of Meghan and Harry? Well speaking of, the pair have grown curiously close to the royal couple in recent times, with speculation that the couples have bonded over their shared experience of family rifts and intense public scrutiny. The Sussex’s are said to have hosted Brooklyn and Nicola privately in California and offered emotional support as tensions with the Beckhams escalated. This closeness is particularly notable as, when Nicola was told Meghan was on the guest list of their wedding, she reportedly replied ‘Who’s Meghan?’. The timing of this sudden closeness has inevitably drawn comparisons between ‘Megxit’ and ‘Beckxit’, as it has been coined. This comparison does also provide a clear insight into the misogyny of modern media, with this acting as yet another example where a woman has been framed as an outsider of a family and pinned as the villain, responsible for the breakdowns of these public houses.

On to the all-too famous wedding, things apparently got out of hand. With Victoria Beckham’s status as a respected designer, it was rumoured that she was to make Nicola’s wedding dress; however, reportedly she pulled out at ‘the eleventh hour’ after arguments between the two women. Does this perhaps provide an insight into Victoria’s controlling nature? Or is Nicola’s own image-obsession the root of their conflict? Most likely, it’s a combination of the two. The wedding drama continues with Brooklyn publicly accusing Victoria of hijacking the couples first dance, leaving him embarrassed – but leaving social media with a multitude of AI videos recreating the reported event to get us through January. The cherry on top of the whole series of events seemed to arrive in August 2025 when Brooklyn and Nicola renewed their wedding vows without a single member of the Beckham family present, showing their future would not include them.

This was all revealed very publicly on January 19th when Brooklyn posted a 6-slide Instagram statement condemning his family and standing up for his wife, giving him a happy 1 million new followers in the process. His claims proved there has been an ongoing rift between the couple and the family, with David and Victoria trying ‘endlessly to ruin’ his relationship with Nicola. He has made the bold statement, ‘I do not want to reconcile with my family’ and has accused the Beckhams of controlling press narratives and prioritising image and endorsements over family relationships, writing ‘Brand Beckham comes first’.

David and Victoria have responded with claims of continuously desiring reconciliation, with a close source reporting that ‘David and Victoria have repeatedly asked Brooklyn and Nicola to meet and talk in order to move forward.’ However, Brooklyn’s social media statement claimed otherwise, noting that he and Nicola travelled to London for David’s 50th birthday last year but were ‘rejected by Victoria and David’. The entire Beckham family have not been photographed together since Christmas 2024 – with Nicola notably on the periphery of the photo – adding to the sense that this has all been brewing for quite some time.

Aside from Victoria and David, Brooklyn has also had a recent rift with his younger, and in my opinion, more attractive, brother Romeo in April 2025, showing that this is an entire family affair. Many of the family have unfollowed or blocked each other on social media, with Cruz Beckham claiming that he and his fellow Beckham family members had ‘woken up blocked’, while Brooklyn now claimed that his brothers blocked him as early as last summer. Clearly, there have been tensions in the Beckham household for a considerable period, but Brooklyn’s very questionable decision to take it all public seems to fully encapsulate the level of this conflict as he clearly desires to destroy his family’s persistent and carefully created public image to appear a big happy family.

All I want is to sit down and talk to them all to find out what’s really happening. Will they ever reconcile or will they, like Harry and Meghan, banish themselves across the Atlantic?
